Somalia and WHO to Collaborate in Tackling Chronic Health Emergencies

Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), and Dr. Ali Haji Adam, the Minister of Health of Somalia had a meeting on Wednesday.

They discussed ways of improving collaboration between the WHO and Somalia’s Federal health ministry, which is crucial for addressing health challenges, particularly in regions facing chronic health emergencies.

Somalia, like many other countries, faces significant health needs, including maternal and child health, infectious diseases, and the impact of ongoing humanitarian crises.

The WHO’s support in advancing #HealthForAll, especially for vulnerable populations like mothers and children, is vital.

This meeting likely focused on strategies to strengthen health systems, improve access to essential services, and respond effectively to emergencies.

Such partnerships are essential for achieving sustainable health outcomes and ensuring that no one is left behind in the pursuit of universal health coverage.

The WHO’s continued engagement with Somalia’s Ministry of Health will hopefully lead to tangible improvements in the country’s health infrastructure and services.
