Somalia has appealed to Oman for assistance with the ongoing drought.
Abdirahman Abdishakur, Somalia’s Special Envoy for Drought Response, delivered the appeal to the Sultan of the Sultanate of Oman, His Majesty Sultan Haitham Bin Tariq.

He delivered a written message from Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to the Oman Sultan on Wednesday, August 10.
H. Sayid Shihab bin Tariq Al Said, the Omani Deputy Prime Minister for Defense Affairs, received the written message from President Mohamed on behalf of Sultan Tariq.
Abdishakur also briefed Al Said on the severity of the ongoing drought in Somalia.
He urged Oman to intervene and help Somalia before the situation worsens.
