Somalia Appeals to WHO to Help Improve its Health System Resilience

Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre’s met with the Regional Director of the Eastern Mediterranean Region of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr. Hanan Balkhy, on Sunday.

PM Barre highlighted that investment in human capital and developing a robust health workforce are essential for Somalia’s socio-economic transformation, aligning with the SDGs’ vision.

Dr. Balkhy affirmed WHO’s commitment to supporting Somalia’s healthcare improvements, aiming to boost the country’s global health rankings.

Her focus includes improving health governance, workforce training, and enhancing healthcare outcomes, with particular attention to reducing mortality rates.

This collaboration underscores the shared goals of both Somalia and WHO in advancing sustainable health development and resilience.
