Somalia is back in full control of its airspace following the recent Class A upgrade.
The reclassification of the country’s airspace to Class A enabled the East African nation to regain full control of this resource.
International Air Transport Association (IATA) said that the reclassification is the result of the recent installation of air traffic control (ATC) systems in Somalia.
IATA added that the reclassification was possible because of the decision by Somalia to install numerous other vital infrastructures for managing air traffic.
Director General Ahmed Moallin Hassan of the Somali Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA) said the reclassification would allow the country to see a massive increase in the number of flights.
Moallin added that he expects the number of flights to rise from 400 to 600.
More importantly, Somalia’s annual revenues would also increase to $34 million from $22 million.
