President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo’s cabinet has approved the National Social Protection (NSP) Steering Committee.
Sadik Warfa, the Minister for Labor and Social Affairs in the Federal Government of Somalia, announced this breakthrough on Thursday August 6.
Cabinet, which was sitting under the leadership of the Acting Prime Minister Mahdi Mohamed Gulaid, passed what Warfa called a “vital item.”
According to Warfa, the Acting Prime Minister would chair the NSP Steering Committee assisted by the labor and social affairs ministry.
Warfa said the ministry would ensure that the NSP is followed religiously around the country to create a coherent social protection system.
Without it, Warfa said the country’s poor and most vulnerable citizens or communities would never access the social safety net they need.
Warfa thanked his colleagues in the cabinet for this great show of faith in rebuilding the country’s social fiber.
