On Monday, the cabinet met under the leadership of Acting Prime Minister Mahdi M. Gulaid and approved the list of nine members of the Independent Anti-Corruption Commission (IACC).
According to an update from the Office of the Prime Minister, all the nine members whose names were submitted by the Ministry of Justice were approved.
Consequently, the members now wait to be sworn into office to assume their roles and duties.
Prime Minister Gulaid expressed gratitude to the cabinet for approving the new members to such an important body.
He said that the IACC provides the backbone to any investigation carried out to unearth corruption anywhere in the country.
IACC was formed in 2019 after President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo signed the anti-corruption bill into law.
The formation of a fully staffed anti-corruption commission is critical in a country listed by Transparency International as one of the most corrupt in the world.
