Somalia Commences Elite Police Training Backed by EU

MOGADISHU — The Somali Police Force has initiated an advanced training curriculum for specialized units of the Police Dervish (Daraawiish) force, aimed at enhancing law enforcement capabilities and improving security response measures.

The program was officially launched by Police Commander Major General Asad Osman Abdullahi at a ceremony in Mogadishu. The event was attended by high-ranking Somali officials and the Head of the European Union mission to Somalia.

Focus on Counter-Terrorism and Rights

According to police reports, the selected units will receive specialized instruction in contemporary counter-terrorism methods, advanced combat techniques, and operational protocols.

Crucially, the curriculum prioritizes adherence to both national legislation and international human rights norms, ensuring that the paramilitary units operate within legal frameworks while combating threats.

** Strengthening Security Institutions**

Government representatives indicated that the training is projected to boost the operational efficiency of the Dervish contingent and strengthen interagency coordination.

This initiative aligns with Somalia’s collaborative approach with international partners to develop competent and responsible policing institutions as part of the nation’s ongoing security transition.
