Somalia Confirms 38 More COVID-19 Cases

The Minister of Health, Dr. Fawziya Abikar, announced that Somalia has recorded a further 38 COVID-19 cases thus bringing the number to 873.

She issued this announcement on Wednesday.

During her daily briefing to the public, Dr. Abikar also announced that one more person succumbed to the virulent disease thus bringing the number of deaths to 38.

Further, she said that the Banadir region remains the only one with the capacity to test samples while all other Federal Member States are incapable of either isolating or treating patients.

According to the World Health Organization, COVID-19 is a highly infectious disease, which makes it capable of causing more deaths.

Somalia is in a tenuous position because of a fragile healthcare system that has not recovered after decades of deadly clan-based conflicts and a dysfunctional government.
