The Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) has unequivocally declared that Taiwan is part of China.
Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation made this declaration in a communique published on January 14.
The communique was in response to Taiwan’s growing closeness with Somaliland.
It was also issued to respond to the support that China has offered Somalia in the past couple of weeks in its diplomatic row with Ethiopia.
Somalia is angry that Ethiopia signed a deal with Somaliland to recognize the latter as an independent state.
Somalia believes that Somaliland, which broke away from it in 1991, remains part of its territory.
