Somalia Denies Reports It Sent Troops to Libya

The Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) has denied reports that it sent some of its troops to Libya.

Ahmed Issa Awad, Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, denied these reports vehemently.

He said that his government had not sent and would not be sending members of the Somali National Army (SNA) to Libya.

Reports showing that Somalia’s troops were in Libya have been aired on pro-Haftar Arab media outlets.

Minister Awad said that his country’s soldiers were not mercenaries.

He termed as “baseless” the reports that were spread quickly via social media. Further, he denied reports of collusion between Turkey and Somalia to send troops to Libya.

The pro-Haftar media houses in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Libya that relayed the news never cited any sources, though.
