The Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) has deployed several Turkish-trained soldiers along the country’s border with Kenya.
Soldiers from Gorgor unit were deployed to Dolow, a town in the hotly contested Gedo region.
Gedo region has been the scene of increasing differences between FGS and the local administration, which is under the leadership of President Ahmed Islam Madobe.
President Madobe of Puntland has repeatedly asked the government to loosen its hold over Gedo if the region is to take part in the polls scheduled for December 2020 and February 2021.
The soldiers arrived at Dolow on Monday, December 21.
Their arrival in the region takes place at a time when the country’s diplomatic relations with Kenya seem to be at its lowest point.
