Somalia Fails to Win AU PSC Seat as Ethiopia Wins

In the elections held on Wednesday evening for a seat on the African Union (AU) Peace and Security Council (PSC), Somalia received 10 votes, which was insufficient to secure a seat.

Ethiopia, on the other hand, won the seat decisively with 38 votes, while Rwanda received only 1 vote.

The AU PSC is a crucial body responsible for promoting peace, security, and stability across the continent, and securing a seat requires a majority of votes from member states.

Somalia’s failure to secure the seat highlights the competitive nature of such elections and the diplomatic efforts required to garner sufficient support.

Ethiopia’s victory reflects its strong influence and diplomatic standing within the AU.

Somalia had expressed its interest for the 15-member AU PSC seat early last month.
