Ambassador Ahmed Isse Awad, Somalia’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, is in Kenya to prepare the ground for President Mohamed Farmaajo who is expected in Nairobi for a meeting with President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Officials have confirmed that Ambassador Awad held meeting with his Kenyan counterpart, CS Raychelle Omamo. The meeting comes in the wake of the visit to Somalia by a delegation from Nairobi led by Cabinet Secretary for Interior, Dr. Fred Matiang’i.
The Nairobi meeting represents the first post-Gedo clashes round table discussions between officials from the two countries. Dr. Matiang’i’s visit to Mogadishu last week was the result of a telephone call between the presidents of the two Horn of Africa countries.
While in Mogadishu, the Matiang’i-led delegation extended an invitation to President Farmaajo to visit Nairobi soon for a meeting with his Kenyan counterpart. The Somali leader accepted the invitation, which should help to quell the tensions between the two countries.
