Somalia Gaining the Upper Hand in the War Against Al-Shabaab

The Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) has gained the upper hand in the ongoing war against Al-Shabaab.

FGS has stationed soldiers from the Somali National Army (SNA) to various Al-Shabaab hotspots around the country for years.

The soldiers have been working closely with African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) and US Africa Command (AFRICOM) troops to defeat the Al-Shabaab menace.

On Monday, a top SNA official confirmed that the government troops had raided an Al-Shabaab base in Lower Shabelle and killed over a dozen extremists.

This week’s operation was the latest in a series that SNA, AMISOM, and AFRICOM soldiers have carried out in the region since January.

General Ahmed Hassan Sayid, Commander of SNA’s 143rd Unit, confirmed that government forces killed at least 12 Al-Shabaab in Lower Shabelle early this week.

Moreover, Gen. Sayid confirmed that his troops killed the enemy combatants without suffering any injury or fatality of their own.
