Somalia Hails the Ceasefire Announced in Libya

Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has hailed the ceasefire announced in Libya.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a press release congratulating the two sides that have been at loggerheads in the North African nation for months for calling a ceasefire.

Libya’s Government of National Accord (GNA), based in Tripoli and enjoying international recognition, published a statement calling for polls to be held in March 2021.

The ceasefire is between two sides that have been fighting for control of the country.

Libya has been at war since 2011 when NATO-led forces deposed Colonel Muammar Gaddafi from power.

The ceasefire, between GNA and the House of Representatives, was announced on Friday August 20.
