Somalia has threatened the fight against illegal trade in cheetahs.
The Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) made this announcement on December 4 during the International Cheetah Day.
Somalia has been listed as one of the world’s most dangerous places for cheetahs.
The East African nation is on the spot for being a gateway for the trafficking of cheetahs to the Gulf countries.
Cheetahs, especially cubs that end up in the Gulf States through Somalia, are often smuggled into the country from Ethiopia and Kenya.
Somalia’s Ministry of Environment has been working closely with the Cheetah Conservation Fund (CCF) to rescue the animals from illegal trafficking.
CCF mentioned that over 300 cheetahs are smuggled out of the Horn of Africa region through Somaliland each year.
