Somalia Launches COVID-19 Response Plan in Partnership with the UN

The Federal Government of Somalia has launched a COVID-19 Preparedness and Response Plan in partnership with the United Nations.

CPRP’s purpose is to address the humanitarian crisis and needs that COVID-19 has created in the country.

It is also responsible for evaluating the disease’s socio-economic impact in the Horn of Africa nation.

Adam Abdelmoula, who is the Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General, confirmed this yesterday.

Abdelmoula said, “COVID-19 is bound to have a devastating impact in the lives of every person living in Somalia today.”

Consequently, he says the goal is to prevent large-scale transmission of the virulent disease at the community level all over the country.

CPRP is to help with that by scaling up communications on risks, testing, and contact tracing. The plan involves managing confirmed COVID-19 cases properly too.

As of April 22, Somalia has reported almost 286 COVID-19 cases, which is a huge increase from the first one case it confirmed on March 16, 2020.
