The Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) has launched a portal to support cross-border trade.
The government launched the trade information portal on Wednesday, August 25.
The move is the latest attempt by the government at boosting cross-border trade.
Through the portal, the government also seeks to comply with the World Trade Organization (WTO) Trade Facilitation Agreement.
Abdulkadir Sharif Shekhuna, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry’s state minister, broke the news on August 26.
The state minister announced that all and any information a person is interested in is available at https://stip.gov.so/.
According to Shekhuna, the portal will achieve several purposes.
First, it will lower costs for investors and traders. Secondly, it will also simplify trading procedures for importers and exporters in Somalia.
The new portal allows traders to access over 90 laws, procedures, and regulations from more than a dozen agencies.
