Somalia Launches Second Round of Polio Vaccination Campaign

The Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) in partnership with the United Nations has announced plans to launch the second round of polio vaccination campaign.

According to an announcement by the UN, the campaign is scheduled to kick off on Sunday, October 25.

Additionally, the global organization stated that it would be targeting over 1.65 million children under the age of five years during the campaign.

The vaccination campaign is scheduled to run for four days.

During this immunization drive, children under the age of five years in southern and central parts of the country would receive oral polio vaccines.

The World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) recently confirmed a fresh outbreak of polio in Somalia.

Currently, 23 children have been diagnosed with polio.

The second round of the immunization drive is designed to ensure that the disease does not affect more children.
