Heavy rains have recently impacted various regions of Somalia, leading to tragic outcomes. In Timirshe village, located in the Bari region of Puntland State, local journalists report that three individuals—a mother and her two children—lost their lives due to the flooding.
This incident is part of a broader pattern of severe weather currently affecting the country.
In the Bandarbeyla district of the Bari region, two children died and over 100 families were displaced after their house collapsed due to continuous rainfall over four days.
The heavy rains have disrupted transportation and communication networks, complicating relief efforts.
Similarly, in Galkayo city, Mudug region, three civilians died, and hundreds of families were displaced due to heavy rains.
Rescue operations are ongoing, and there are concerns that the death toll may rise as efforts continue to reach those still trapped.
Nationwide, the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) reported that floods have resulted in at least 101 deaths, displaced 1 million people, and affected 1.5 million others. The floods have also led to the destruction of 140,000 homes and the death of 4,000 livestock.
These events underscore the urgent need for coordinated humanitarian assistance and infrastructure improvements to mitigate the impact of such natural disasters in the future.
