Somalia’s international partners have said that the country must hold its elections on time. They issued this reminder despite mounting electoral law disputes.
The country recently enacted its electoral law, which should guide all stakeholders ahead of the upcoming elections in 2021.
Terms for the country’s executive and legislature will expire in October 2020.
Consequently, the country has been working hard to prepare for the elections. Enactment of the electoral law is the first part of the process.
President Farmaajo has already assented to the law. The law offers directions on various issues. These include electoral conduct as well as the electoral model the country must use.
According to the international partners, the law is critical for implementing the one-person-one-vote elections that the country needs.
