Somalia Needs Help Capturing 43 Boats Used for Illegal Fishing

Somalia has said it needs help from the world’s anti-piracy forces to capture 43 boats used for illegal fishing along its shores. The boats belong to Pakistanis and Iranians.

The Pakistani and Iranian boats have operated in the waters of the Horn of Africa nation for a long time.

According to the Federal Government of Somalia, the two countries are guilty of fishing in Somali waters illegally.

FGS announced that it would pursue the boats until it captures them all. Upon capture, the boats would have to pay heavy fines.

According to the country’s Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources, the boats often operate in Galmudug and Puntland.

Abdullahi Bidhaan Warsame, the minister in charge of Fisheries and Marine Resources warned that Somali pirates are likely to resume their activities because of the increase in illegal fishing.
