Somalia Opposition Presidential Candidates Call for Yasin’s Resignation

Presidential candidates from the opposition have called for the immediate resignation of Fahad Yasin, the Director of National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA).

The candidates are currently meeting in Mogadishu to discuss ways of approaching the upcoming presidential elections with one voice.

They accused Yasin of political interference.

Yasin, a former journalist with Al Jazeera, is one of President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo’s closest confidants.

He has been blasted for ensuring that NISA officers, Farmaajo loyalists, and civil servants are incorporated into the electoral commissions.

Opposition politicians believe the move is designed to manipulate the electoral process and guarantee Farmaajo’s side favorable outcome in the elections.
