Candidates aspiring to be elected into either the Upper House or Lower House would have to pay $20,000 or $10,000 respectively as registration fees.
A meeting held at Villa Somalia between the Federal Government of Somalia and Federal Member States on Thursday agreed on this.
The registration fees were part of the list of requirements that Somali leaders published after the meeting.
FGS and FMS held the meeting as a follow-up to the National Consultation Conference that was held last month in Mogadishu.
Last month’s meeting failed to tackle several elections-related issues.
Consequently, FGS and FMS leaders opted to have one more session to iron out the equally important issues.
With this latest announcement, the list of candidates vying for a seat in either Senate or the House of Representatives is likely to reduce substantially.
