Many Swedish-Somali individuals find themselves caught in the Syrian war with IS. Most of these vulnerable people are women and children.
President Farmaajo of Somalia has announced that he is willing to have them returned to Somalia if other countries will welcome them.
That is the message that Ali Said Faqi, Somalia’s Ambassador in the European Union delivered in an interview with Radio Ekot of Sweden.
It is unclear whether the evacuation will go on smoothly, though.
Kurdish authorities claim that more than 50 percent of the people at the IS camp are of Somali origin. That translates to about 30-40 people.
Julia Eriksson, the press communicator at Sweden’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, “We cannot comment on that although we have full information.”
