President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has arrived in Baidoa as he embarks on a peace and reconciliation crusade.
The newly sworn-in leader arrived in Baidoa on Tuesday, May 31.
This marks the first time that President Mohamud leaves Mogadishu since winning the presidential elections and being sworn in as Somalia’s 10th President.
He arrived in the administrative capital of the Southwest state to a warm welcome from regional leaders.
Southwest’s President Abdiasis Laftagareen was among the dignitaries who welcomed President Mohamud.
Senators and Members of Parliament (MPs) accorded him a rousing welcome too.
Villa Somalia said that the visit to Baidoa is part of President Mohamud’s Peace Caravan.
While in Baidoa, Mohamud is also scheduled to assess the region’s humanitarian needs and the impact of the ongoing drought.
