Somalia’s Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble has appointed members to the Electoral Commission and the Dispute Resolutions Commission.
As per Roble’s announcement, the Electoral Commission is to have 25 commissioners.
In the meantime, he also appointed 21 commissioners to the Dispute Resolutions Commission.
The two poll commissions have been formed as per the agreement signed in September between the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and Federal Member States (FMS).
Both sides agreed to form federal electoral commissions to facilitate the upcoming polls.
Ideally, the National Independent Electoral Commission (NIEC) should have taken charge of the forthcoming elections.
However, NIEC had declared its inability to supervise timely elections.
Instead, it recommended postponement of parliamentary elections to March 2021 followed by presidential polls in August 2021.
