Somalia is now ready to take over all the security responsibilities from the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS), Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre said.
The Prime Minister said this on Friday evening after it emerged that the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) had lifted the 31-year-old arms embargo imposed on Somalia.
He welcomed the decision saying that it proved the international community trusted Somalia to protect its territory.
Prime Minister Barre added that the government was now more determined to take the war against Al-Shabaab to the next level.
Describing the vote as a historic move, Prime Minister Barre mentioned that the government would now embark on rebuilding security forces in the country to improve their capacity.
