Somalia Receives $10 Million for Drought Response from UN Emergency Fund

Somalia has received $10 million from the United Nations for drought response.

The East African nation received the funds from the UN through the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) on August 24.

Currently, Somalia is facing its worst drought in the last four decades.

There are fears that the situation could create a hitherto unimaginable humanitarian crisis in Somalia unless the international community responds fast.

The UN, through the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), has indicated that the levels of food insecurity in Somalia are now “catastrophic.”

More than 7.8 million are facing acute food insecurity in Somalia.

Close to 213,000 Somalis around the country are already in famine-like situations.
