Somalia Receives 300,000 COVID-19 Vaccines on March 15

Somalia has received the first batch of 300,000 vaccines for the COVID-19 pandemic that continues to wreck havoc in the country.

The plane carrying the first of close to 1.2 million doses of the Oxford Astrazeneca vaccine landed at the Aden Adde International Airport on March 15.

Several officials from the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS), especially the Ministry of Health, were at the airport to receive the vaccines.

A statement from the federal government indicated that the country ordered enough vaccines for vaccinating close to 20 percent of the population.

Currently, Somalia has recorded up to 9,100 COVID-19 cases in the last 12 months and the number is expected to increase as it struggles with a second wave.
