Somalia Rejects Planned Removal of Palestines from Their Ancestral Land in Gaza

Somalia’s Foreign Minister, Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, has firmly rejected any proposals that would undermine the Palestinian people’s right to live peacefully on their ancestral land. He emphasized Somalia’s refusal to use its territory for the resettlement of other populations, aligning with the country’s longstanding support for Palestinian sovereignty.

This stance comes amid reports that the United States and Israel have approached several African nations, including Somalia, Sudan, and Somaliland, about resettling Palestinians displaced from Gaza as part of a controversial plan to transform the region. The proposal has faced widespread international backlash, with concerns about its legality and potential violation of Palestinian rights.

Sudan has also rejected the proposal, stating that it would not discuss accepting Palestinians displaced from Gaza under the plan. Sudanese officials confirmed that the Trump administration had suggested Sudan take in Palestinians in exchange for military and postwar reconstruction assistance, but the proposal was immediately rebuffed.

The plan, which aims to permanently relocate Gaza’s 2 million residents, is perceived by legal experts as potentially unlawful and a war crime. Egypt, Jordan, and Palestinians in Gaza have also opposed the plan, with Arab nations proposing a multibillion-dollar reconstruction while keeping Palestinians in place.

These developments highlight the complexities and sensitivities surrounding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the international community’s efforts to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
