Somalia Seeks Solutions for its High Maternal Mortality Rate

The High-Level Advocacy Meeting on the Reduction of High Maternal Mortality in Somalia concluded today in Mogadishu, addressing one of the most critical public health challenges in the country.

Somalia currently records 621 to 692 maternal deaths per 100,000 live births, placing it among the countries with the highest maternal mortality rates globally.

Discussions at the meeting focused on strengthening maternal health services, improving access to skilled care during childbirth, and addressing underlying issues like poverty, malnutrition, and limited healthcare infrastructure.

Participants included government officials, international partners, healthcare professionals, and civil society organizations.

Commitments were made to prioritize maternal health in national health policies, increase investment in healthcare systems, and advocate for community-based solutions to prevent maternal deaths.
