Madrid, Spain – Somalia’s Minister of Public Works and Housing, Dr. Elmi Mohamud Nur, led a high-level delegation to the Spain-Africa Summit in Madrid, where he presented Somalia’s ambitious priorities for reconstruction and infrastructure development.

During the summit, which brought together African ministers, European partners, and international development stakeholders, Dr. Elmi highlighted key focus areas for Somalia’s rebuilding efforts.

These include the development of strategic seaports, expansion and rehabilitation of road networks, enhancement of the energy sector, improved water management systems, and boosting regional connectivity to integrate Somalia more effectively with the Horn of Africa and beyond.

“Our aim is to lay the physical and economic foundations that will support peace, job creation, and sustainable development across Somalia,” said Dr. Elmi, while adding that strategic infrastructure investment is essential to unlocking the country’s potential.

The minister emphasized Somalia’s openness to international cooperation, public-private partnerships, and technical assistance. He also reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to good governance, transparency, and aligning infrastructure priorities with national and regional development frameworks.

Spain, hosting the summit, reiterated its support for deepening ties with Africa, particularly through infrastructure, climate adaptation, digital transformation, and youth employment.
