Minister Reviews Water and Solar Projects at Energy Ministry

MOGADISHU — The Minister of Energy and Water Resources for Somalia’s federal government, H.E. Abdullahi Bidhaan Warsame, conducted an official inspection of a newly drilled water well at the ministry’s headquarters on Sunday.

Securing an Autonomous Water Supply

During his visit, the minister received comprehensive updates from project engineers regarding the technical specifications and overall construction progress of the water well. The new installation represents a strategic initiative to establish a dependable and autonomous water supply for the ministry’s facilities. Ultimately, this move aims to significantly decrease the operational expenses associated with external water services, complementing the administration’s broader national efforts to expand water access and build climate resilience.

Renewable Energy and Institutional Self-Sufficiency

In addition to the water well, the minister examined a recently implemented solar power system at the premises. This modern system is specifically designed to produce consistent, renewable electricity while minimizing the ministry’s daily dependence on alternative, more costly energy sources. It closely aligns with the government’s ambitious course toward a solar-powered future and its active plans to dramatically reduce electricity costs nationwide.

According to government officials, these completed infrastructural projects actively demonstrate the ministry’s wider commitment to achieving institutional self-sufficiency, operational efficiency, and sustainable practices, mirroring their recent success in broadening free electricity access for public schools and health facilities. The developments are a key part of the final preparations for the official opening ceremony of the ministry’s new headquarters, which is planned to occur following the conclusion of the holy month of Ramadan.
