Somalia Showcases Investment Potential at China-Somalia Trade Conference

Yinchuan, China – Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre attended the China–Somalia Trade Conference in Yinchuan, where he underscored Somalia’s growing role as a strategic hub for regional and international trade. The high-level gathering, organized by the Somali Embassy in Beijing in collaboration with authorities from China’s Ningxia region, brought together more than 100 companies from both countries.

The Prime Minister highlighted Somalia’s untapped opportunities in agriculture, fisheries, renewable energy, infrastructure, and telecommunications. He stressed that with its strategic location along vital maritime routes and its ongoing economic reforms, Somalia is well-positioned to attract significant Chinese investment and become a bridge for trade between Africa, the Middle East, and Asia.

The conference aimed to deepen bilateral cooperation by creating direct links between Somali and Chinese businesses. Participating firms engaged in discussions on potential joint ventures, knowledge transfer, and technology partnerships, particularly in sectors critical to Somalia’s long-term economic recovery and resilience.

Ningxia officials expressed China’s commitment to expanding trade with Somalia and supporting development initiatives through infrastructure projects, financing, and capacity-building programs. The event also provided a platform for Somali entrepreneurs to showcase local products and services to the Chinese market, paving the way for increased exports.

This marks one of the most significant trade-focused engagements between the two countries in recent years, reflecting Somalia’s broader push to diversify its international partnerships and attract private investment as it transitions toward stability and sustainable growth.
