Somalia Signs SOFA Deal with Uganda

Somalia has signed a Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) with Uganda following discussions between President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and President Yoweri Museveni in Kampala.

The agreement formalizes the legal framework for Ugandan military operations in Somalia.

Particularly, it focuses on the fight against terrorism, including Al-Shabaab.

Signed based on a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), this agreement outlines the legal conditions for Ugandan forces operating within Somalia, ensuring mutual understanding and collaboration between the two nations.

According to Somalia’s Defence Minister, Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur, this agreement is a significant step in enhancing military cooperation to address the ongoing security challenges posed by terrorist groups.

Nur revealed that the agreement was signed on Saturday while President Mohamud was in Uganda for talks with his host, President Museveni.
