Somalia Starts Receiving Electoral Support from the AU

Somalia has started receiving support from the African Union (AU) designed to help it prepare for the upcoming elections.

Together with the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), the AU has begun extending assistance to Somalia.

The East African nation has already held senatorial elections in most of the regional states.

However, elections for the Lower House are yet to kick off. Presidential polls are also expected to take place much later in the year.

AU and AMISOM are already providing Somalia with financial, operational, and technical assistance.

The assistance follows a recent request by the Office of the Prime Minister.

Apart from Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble, the Ministry of Women and Human Rights Development and the Federal Electoral Implementation Team (FEIT) also asked AU for help.

Consequently, AU and AMISOM have already deployed three leading African electoral experts to Somalia.
