MOGADISHU — Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, H.E. Abdisalam Abdi Ali, received the Ambassador of Sudan to Somalia, H.E. Abdulrahman Khalil Ahmed Abubakar, at the Foreign Ministry headquarters in Mogadishu on Monday.
The high-level meeting focused on bolstering Somalia’s sovereignty, national unity, and territorial integrity, while exploring avenues to expand bilateral cooperation between the two nations.
During the discussions, the Sudanese envoy affirmed his nation’s complete support for the Federal Government. He notably commended the Somali people on the successful implementation of one-person, one-vote local elections, marking a historic milestone as the first such elections in 57 years.
Strategic Security and Unity
The conversation also emphasized the strategic significance of the Red Sea, the Bab al-Mandab Strait, and the Indian Ocean. Both officials discussed these maritime security issues in the context of Somalia’s current position as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.
Minister Abdisalam expressed his gratitude to Ambassador Abubakar for his recent visit to Las Anod. He highlighted that the diplomat’s presence in the northern city helped strengthen the narrative of Somalia’s national unity and territorial integrity during a critical period of state-building.
