Somalia to Deploy Troops along Border to Stop Smuggling of Arms from Ethiopia

Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, has announced that the federal government will deploy troops to the country’s borders in an effort to combat the smuggling of illegal arms from Ethiopia.

Ethiopia has been accused of allowing the smuggling of arms into the neighboring country of Somalia.

During a press briefing on Sunday at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters in Mogadishu, he emphasized the government’s commitment to enforcing strict measures against individuals involved in these activities.

Responding to a question from a local journalist, Fiqi made it clear that anyone, including politicians, found involved in illicit arms smuggling will be blacklisted.

This action is part of Somalia’s broader efforts to enhance border security and tackle illegal arms trafficking that threatens national stability.
