Somalia has announced plans to launch the use of earth observation and geospatial capabilities.
An official launch event already took place on August 15 in Mogadishu.
Mohamud Mohamed Mohamud, the Director-General of the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation, attended the launch event.
In his address, the DG said, “The initiative is a timely one.”
He also added that the initiative would enhance the climate adaptation efforts of the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS).
It would also mitigate the effects of climate disasters, according to DG Mohamud.
He added that the initiative would primarily focus on analyzing deforestation and land use dynamics.
