Somalia is to receive $5.4 million from the African Development Bank (AfDB) to boost food security in the country.
The continental bank has already approved the disbursement of the funds through the African Development Fund (ADF), which is its concessional arm.
Somalia needs to take urgent measures to improve food security in the country.
Currently, the East African nation is experiencing one of its worst droughts in over four decades.
There are genuine fears that the drought could lead to starvation and famine.
On Wednesday, July 20, Nnenna Nwabufo, AfDB’s Director-General for the East Africa Region, confirmed that the organization would release the grant to Somalia.
