Analysts expect that Somalia would soon revive the diplomatic ties that it severed with Kenya early this week.
On Tuesday, December 15, Somalia announced that it was cutting off all diplomatic ties with its East African neighbor.
It made this decision after Kenya hosted Somaliland’s President Muse Bihi Abdi, who was in the country on a three-day official visit.
Lately, Somalia has repeatedly accused Kenya of interfering with its “internal affairs.”
On Wednesday, Nairobi sent a letter to Mogadishu seeking more clarification over the decision to cut off diplomatic links.
Several analysts believe that Somalia rushed to make this decision.
They said the act of cutting off diplomatic relations is slightly below declaring war.
The analysts said that pressure from people, especially those in Somalia, bound to feel the full effects of severed links with Kenya, could force Mogadishu to reconsider this decision.
Further, they claimed the move reeks of “politics” by President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo whose bid for reelection is under severe test from the opposition.
