Three countries in the Horn of Africa region have pledged to combine their efforts in fighting terrorism.
In a joint communiqué from Eritrea’s capital, Asmara, leaders of the three countries promised to implement a Joint Plan of Action.
The plan will have two main objectives. It will seek to consolidate peace, security, and stability. Its second objective will be to promote socio-economic development in the three nations.
President Mohamed Farmaajo, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, and President Isaias Afwerki represented Somalia, Ethiopia, and Eritrea at the meeting respectively.
They released a joint statement in which they vowed to formulate a comprehensive plan for combating and neutralizing common threats affecting their three countries.
They cited these threats as “drug smuggling, human and arms trafficking, and terrorism. The joint effort is welcome news in a region beset with decades-old conflicts.
