Ms. Isha Dyfan, the UN Independent Expert on the Situation of Human Rights in Somalia, emphasized the importance of aligning Somalia’s Official Information Bill with international human rights standards.
She issued this call while addressing the 57th Session of the UN Human Rights Council.
While she acknowledged the Bill as a positive development, Dyfan urged the Federal Government to ensure that it effectively grants Somali citizens access to information held by public institutions.
She highlighted the need to avoid overly broad provisions that could undermine the Law’s objective of promoting transparency and accountability.
