Somalia Urges the UN Not to Renew Resolution 2705 (2023)

Somalia has written to the United Nations asking it not to renew the UN Resolution 2705 (2023).

The East African nation wrote to the UN through Ahmed Fiqi, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

In the letter dated May 5th, Somalia called for the termination of the mandate of the UN Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM) too.

Fiqi thanked the UN for the support and cooperation extended to the country over the years.

It highlighted the role that UN played in the development and stability of Somalia.

The minister stated that the country was now ready to transition to the next phase of its partnership with the global organization.
