Somalia Welcomes Sharm El-Sheikh Ceasefire Pact, Reaffirms Stand with Palestine

Mogadishu, Somalia – The federal government of Somalia has hailed the recently signed Sharm El-Sheikh agreement as a vital step toward restoring calm and dignity in one of the world’s most protracted conflicts.

In a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mogadishu praised the pact — which calls for an immediate ceasefire, increased humanitarian access, and renewed political negotiations — describing it as a “constructive pathway toward enduring regional peace.”

Somalia’s government reiterated its unwavering support for the Palestinian people, stressing that true peace cannot be achieved without justice.

In the statement, Somalia underscored the point that any sustainable settlement must uphold Palestine’s right to full sovereignty and statehood, in line with international law and long-standing United Nations resolutions.

“For decades, the Palestinian people have endured unimaginable hardship. This agreement offers a glimpse of hope, but it must be followed by decisive action. Ceasefire alone is not enough — dignity, rights, and nationhood must be restored,” the ministry said.

Somali officials also called on the international community to ensure that aid flows swiftly and unhindered to civilians affected by the conflict, warning that further delay could cost more lives. They emphasized that Somalia’s position is rooted not only in political alignment but in shared historical experiences of struggle, resilience, and the pursuit of self-determination.

Diplomatic observers note that Somalia’s response reflects a growing momentum among African and Arab nations seeking a more assertive collective voice on questions of global justice. As negotiations begin under the framework laid out in Sharm El-Sheikh, Mogadishu urged all parties to act in good faith and “choose dialogue over devastation.”
