Somalia will not take sides in the row between Ethiopia and Egypt.
Abdikarim Kaar, the official government spokesperson, said this during a media briefing in Mogadishu on Thursday, July 28.
According to Kaar, Somalia would remain neutral as Ethiopia and Egypt continue their deliberations on filling up the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).
The government spokesperson said that Somalia envisages a situation where all concerned parties use the waters of the Nile River peacefully.
He said that the Nile River passes through many “friendly, neighborly, and brotherly” countries.
His comments follow the widespread reports that President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi discussed the GERD issue.
President Mohamud recently visited Egypt officially at the invitation of President el-Sisi.
