Somalia Wins Silver in the 5,000m Men’s Race at All African Games

Somalia won silver in the men’s 5,000m race at the ongoing All African Games taking place in Accra, Ghana.

Abdullahi Jama Mohamed of Somalia finished second in the final of the race held on Friday.

He was behind Gebrhiwet Berhe and Cornelius Kemboi of Ethiopia and Kenya respectively.

In the process, Mohamed created history by winning Somalia’s first medal of any kind in a global or continental competition in 35 years.

It later emerged that he covered his own expenses to attend the continental event.

The lone medal places Somalia in the 37th position jointly with Equatorial Guinea. This might be the only medal it earns as the games end this weekend.
