On Wednesday, Somalia’s Ministry of Health confirmed 54 new COVID-19 cases, which takes the number closer to the 600-mark.
Dr. Fawziya Abikar announced that the country now grapples with 580 positively confirmed Coronavirus cases, which is the highest in the Horn of Africa region.
Further, it also emerged that the Federal Government of Somalia distributed medical and testing equipment to several regional governments including HirShabelle and Southwest.
Despite the unprecedented increase in the number of cases, the government has instituted several measures designed to stop the spread of COVID-19 in the country.
On April 23, the UN Agencies for Country Preparedness and Response Plan (CPRP) requested more than $689 million to help aid agencies to develop solutions for the pandemic in Somalia.
