Somalia’s Minister of Defense accused Ethiopia of causing regional instability by signing a controversial Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Somaliland, a self-declared independent region in northern Somalia.
Defense minister Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur stated that the agreement undermines Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, leading to increased tension in the region.
The MoU, which deals with security cooperation and investments, has been deemed illegal by the Somali government, which views Somaliland as an integral part of its territory.
In response, the Somali government called on Ethiopia to reconsider the MoU and to respect Somalia’s unity and sovereignty.
The issue has heightened diplomatic tensions between the two neighboring countries, which have historically shared complex and sometimes strained relations.
